UCSB-MPG Program for International Exchange in Material Sciences

The coordinators of this program are Tresa Pollock for the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), U.S.A., side and Matthias Scheffler for the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (MPG), Germany, side.

Presently the rules and procedure are as follows:

If a Max Planck director plans to start a new collaboration, or if a collaboration is already going on and the Max Planck director likes to send someone from his department to UCSB for a few weeks or for a few months, the MP director should send a brief email to Matthias Scheffler, telling:

Matthias Scheffler will then look at it, and if he has a question he will get back to the applying director. The default is that he will not get back but sends an email to the Max Planck General Administration (cc: to Tresa Pollock and the applying director) that this project should be supported.

Then the MPG will pay for the travel and UCSB will cover the local expenses in Santa Barbara.

For the reverse process it just works analogous: If a UCSB professor likes to send someone to a Max Planck Institute, they should send an email to Tresa Pollock, etc. A description of this program can also be found at the UCSB-Website.
